MailWasher Pro Update

We released an update to MailWasher Pro 2011 this month, with some long requested features such as hiding emails and notifications.

If you haven't installed this version yet, then we recommend you do so as it also contains several important fixes.

Hidden emails

Why would you want to hide some of your emails?

Hiding emails is really useful when you want to quickly sort through spam or undetermined email.

For example, if I opt to hide Friends emails, then all the spam email is much easier to recognize and deal to.

Alternatively, I can hide email which is spam related so that I never ever see it, and when I wash the email, the spam is deleted.

Hidden Emails
You can also switch between showing and hiding emails by clicking the icon above, so it's quick to check for any issues.

New Notifications

Better notification of new emails has also been added to this version.

Hidden Emails
If you only check one email account in MailWasher, you'll be shown a short notification of the content of the last 4 emails. If you check more than 1 email account, you get a short summary of new email for each account.

Computing Security Awards

MailWasher Pro has been nominated for the 2011 Computing Security Awards, so if you have a couple of minutes to spare, go to their website and click on the 'Vote' link to nominate MailWasher Pro as the Antispam Solution of the year. There's only a week of voting to go. Thanks!

Why you get viruses

This interesting study by a Danish security firm found the main reasons people get viruses is because they don't update their software.

The main vectors for getting infected are via old versions of Adobe Flash, Adobe PDF Reader, Java and Microsoft Internet Explorer. So if you use these, make sure you keep them up to date!

The conclusion of this study is that as much as 99.8 % of all virus/malware infections caused by commercial exploit kits are a direct result of the lack of updating five specific software packages.

As they say, prevention is better than a cure. As annoying as it is, it's safer to keep your software up to date (and less annoying than getting a virus).

Microsoft recently published a similar study where they found about 90% of virus infections were through unpatched software.
